KVPY for Students with True Potential

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana abbreviated as KVPY. It is a national fellowship/scholarship program which was initiated by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India (GOI) and is being currently funded by the same. It is administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Its aim is to inspire highly meritorious students to pursue basic science courses and research career in science.

The objective of the program when it was launched was to identify the students who were above average and had talent and aptitude for research. KVPY helps those children in making them realize their true academic potential and inspires them to take up courses in Science and Technology/Research which will ultimately enhance the Research and Development of our country which ultimately will strengthen our nation. Selection of the students is made from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

It is a two tier examination. The students applying for the scheme are required to give an aptitude test, on basis of which students are short-listed for interview and then a list of finally selected students is declared. The students who give exam while studying in Class 11th are type SA students. The students who give exam while studying in Class 12th are type SX students.The students who give exam while doing the first year of their graduation are type Sb students. The students are differentiated into types because they have a different syllabus, different answering scheme, and different eligibility qualifications.

Schedule for KVPY Exam:

The notice for applications to be open was released in June end which stated that applications for the fellowship scheme will open on 9th July 2017 and the last date for registering or applying for the scheme will be 23rd August 2017. The applications have to be filled online only.

The registration fee for the exam has to be paid latest by the month of September 2017. (Date hasn’t been released) The registration fee for General/OBC candidates is Rs. 1055 and the fee for SC/ST/PWD students are Rs. 528.The date for Tier 1 Aptitude exam is 29th October as per the notice and result for which will be declared by the end of December 2017.

Examination Procedure

The scholarship is given on the basis on the basis of aptitude exam which is followed by interview for the students who qualify the written exam. Further, the merit list is prepared on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weight-age for the interview on basis of which scholarships are provided.

The aptitude test is a multiple choice based exam of total 100 marks. It constitutes of two parts which are 1 & 2, each contains 4 sections of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Paper I contains 20 questions whereas Paper II contains 10 questions in each section. In the Type SA, all questions are compulsory (Science and Mathematics). For type SB and SX, candidates are allowed to answer any THREE of the four subjects in Part I and any TWO of the four subjects in Part II.

KVPY Application Form

The process of filling the application form for KVPY has been categorized into three different parts.First part is registering for the exam in which the student has to go to the official site of KVPY and then has to open the registration portal. He/She then has to enter his/her Name, Date of Birth, Class they are studying in, Stream, Nationality, Email ID and Mobile number.

After which they’ll receive a User ID and Password which has to be used in the next two parts. The second part is to enter the User ID and Password and then click on the login button. Next step is to fill the personal, academic details and then fill the exam center preference. Next Step is to upload the scanned photograph, signature, and other required certificates. After all the details are filled, next step is to preview the form and then submit it and then complete the fee payment part. This is how the application form has to be filled.
